Course Project: AT272 Lab 04 Wing Rib

I. Intro

Date: 09/18/2023

This time we were making left and right wing ribs with water-based release.

II. Procedure

Figure 1: demold
Figure 2: Applied water based release three times, 5 min between each time.
Figure 3: inside had more curvature, corresponding to a more curved corner on the material
Figure 4: somehow all of the material we got were 0 degree ply. She said it’s all the same. But the manual said to use 0 and 90 degrees.
Figure 5: This is how much flash tape we can have for this lab. It’s just rediculous that we need permission or we can only get the flash tape from the TAs. Last time I took about half of inch, and Yuwei came and started talking about her nonsense. “Do you know how expensive this is?” “Do you know who is the person to remove all these tapes from the mold? Me!” WTF she’s so * mean. I googled and the flash tape was not $127 per roll like she said. Did she use her own money to pay for them? We paied the * tuition fee, and this is how much we can get for the tape. Did she removed the tape by herself? No, funny. She asked us to do it.
Figure 6: I had to cut that tiny little piece of tape into 8 pieces. I also used some tape that was on the mold before. But the solid release film still came out.
Figure 7: put them 4” apart
Figure 8: Seal
Figure 9: Cutting bed
Figure 10: Cutting head
Figure 11: Oven used to cure the part
Figure 12: Front and rear wing spar from the previous lab
Figure 13: Front and rear wing spar
Figure 14: we were asked to remove the peel ply from the part. We didn’t get any instructions on how to do it before we did it. The result was that the peel ply at the end didn’t come off and was sticking tightly. When everything was getting annoying and we had to use knife to pry the peel ply at the end, Yuwei came and showed the proper way to do it. So where the * were you?
Figure 15: Since Yuwei didn’t give us proper instructions before we actually did it, and because of that we had to handle the part with the sharp edge and the sharp knife in an unsafe way (with some amount of force) without proper anti-cutting gloves (we just had blue plastic gloves, which is nothing when facing a knife), she should be responsible for our injuries (I was not the only one).
