Course: Unmanned Aerial System Capstone (AT419)

Project Name: A Study on LiDAR Performance Based on Material, Size, and Shape Complexity

Jan. – Apr. 2024

  • Designed a study area that contains many objects with various materials, sizes, and shapes complexity.
  • Used DJI M300 and L1 LiDAR to collect the data of the study area.
  • Used DJI Terra to process data and analyze scanning results.

Project Name: Final Project: Radio Controlled Des Moines

Oct. – Dec. 2023

  • Designed main turret that can fire airsoft and change pitch and yaw angles with strict size constraints. 
  • Used rapid prototyping skill to build and test all subsystems, including self-designed pump for 6mm airsoft beads.
  • Integrated servos, solenoids, gears, and electrical components to the whole firing control system and decoration.
  • Received Best Engineering Award from the School of Mechanical Engineering.

Project Name: Midterm Project: Racing and Battle Bot

Aug. – Oct. 2023

  • Designed and built the chassis that was suitable for both racing and battle, and both won the second place. 
  • Designed and built sloped armor with 3D printed part, aluminum sheet, and laser cutter. 
  • Integrated mechanical, electrical, and control systems by using hardware skill and coding skill.

Project Name: Line-Following Robot

Mar. – May. 2023

  • Developed algorithms that let the robot follow the black line on the competition field.
  • Did research and built customized tools for troubleshooting.
  • Troubleshooted internal bugs from myRio and made adjustments accordingly.
  • Finely tuned the PID and the sensors to get the best performance.

Project Name: Final Project: Analysis of Purdue Wildlife Area

Apr. 2023

  • Used Pix4DCapture, DJI Mavic 2 Pro, and survey-grade ground control points to gather data of the target area.
  • Used Pix4DMapping and ground control coordinates to generate high-precision map and DSM data.
  • Use ArcGIS Pro to analyze the target area and generate maps for demonstrating purposes.

Project Name: Wind Turbine

Mar – Apr. 2023

  • Designed and built a DC motor-powered and fully 3D-printed windmill.
  • Used MATLAB to calculate the parameters of the gears accurately.
  • Used NX12 to construct the gears according to the calculation, the shafts, and the main stand.
  • Used soldering to complete the motor circuit and wired it carefully.

Project Name: Straw Bridge

Sept. – Nov. 2022

  • Led team to design and built a bridge that crossed a 34” gap and held 10kg mass with limited materials.
  • Designed structures of each member carefully to gain maximum efficiency.
  • Tested the building materials (straw and hot glue) under different types of loading and compared the results.
  • Designed and 3D-printed building tools for the best construction accuracy.

Project Name: Hands-Free Door Opening System

  • Designed a system that can open a door without using hands and electricity.
  • Collaborated with teammates to optimize the design.

Project Name: Frequency Generator Device

Nov. – Dec. 2020

  • Determined the relationship between electrical components and frequency generated.
  • Built sets of code in MATLAB to determine the signal quality in large quantities.
  • Used Excel to find the best combination of resistors and capacitors for each target frequency.

Project Name: Optimizing Purdue Transportation

  July – Aug. 2020

  • Figured out the potential danger on the transportation system on campus.
  • Designed a device that could reduce the risk of transportation on the main campus.
  • Developed important communication and collaboration skills with teammates.

Highschool Project: Falling Egg

  June 2019

  • Designed and built a mechanism that allowed the edd shell to touch the ground without breaking.
  • Safely air dropped the egg to the bull’s eye.

Highschool Project: Cardboard Boat

  June 2019

  • Designed the keel for the cardboard boat that held two people and finished two round trips in the pool within one piece.
